1965 Schwinn Sting-Ray, Deluxe & Super Deluxe

In 1965, Schwinn added 3 speed hubs, a Black Slik rear tire, and a springer front fork to certain models. Flamboyant Red was not a color option that year due to the lack of blood for the dye (just kidding about the blood). Colors available were Flamboyant Lime, Radiant Coppertone, Sky Blue and Violet.

They also introduced the Super Deluxe model also know as the J-37 and J-36, the sensational new Sting Ray model with an amazing ride. Smartly equipped with Schwinn's famous spring fork, streamlined deluxe saddle, chrome plated fenders and handlebars, Black Slik rear tire on the J-36 and Whitewall studded on the J-37 model. Both Super Deluxe models came in either coaster brake ($66.95 retail) or 2 speed kickback ($74.95 retail).

The Sting Ray model (J-38) now came with a black Slik rear tire and optional springer fork (model J-33) and came in coaster brake and automatic 2 speed, all fenderless. The 2 models were slightly different. The J-38 had an optional 3 speed kickback hub (available April 1). The 2 and 3 speed models had a front brake. The J-33 model had the springer fork and came in 1 or 2 speeds with no front brake.

The Deluxe J-39 model was similar to last years with a new streamlined Deluxe saddle and an optional 3 speed which was available after April 1. It also came in 1 and 2 speed coaster brake, and had a rigid fork, nylon whitewalls and a studded rear tire, extra large rear reflector and a four coat paint job.
